In the past year there has been several fantastic positive events and outcomes

On 20 November 2015 the WALK FOR TIAGARRA event was held. A   large group of Aboriginal and non Aboriginal supporters of Tiagarra met at the skatepark and walked up to TIAGARRA together in solidarity for the reopening of TIAGARRA. Many thanks to TasTAFE students for initiating this walk and no doubt providing a critical contribution to the second incredible occurrence of the week  – read on !

In the SAME WEEK ! on 22 November 2015:
“OWNERSHIP of the Tiagarra building has been passed from the Devonport City Council to the local Aboriginal community after a unanimous vote at the council meeting last night”.  (7pm, 22 November).
This news is hugely welcomed by the Aboriginal community.
Many thanks to Devonport City Council for recognising, respecting and trusting what is now needed.
Aboriginal ownership of this building means we can apply for specific funding for well overdue, much needed indoors and outdoors interpretation updates, staff training – including volunteers, stock ordering,  and rebuild our visitor numbers again – aiming to be a must-visit high level Tasmanian cultural attraction.
